Last week I had the chance to photograph and volunteer for the World Human Rights Cities Forum in Gwangju, South Korea. In 1980 Gwangju was the epicenter of the Gwangju Democratization Movement, a pivotal Korean Human Rights movement that helped Korea move towards democratization. On May 18, 1980 citizens took control of the city and in the ensuing week 144 citizens were killed. Gwangju is rightly very proud of this heritage and has generously hosted this forum for the past two years.
